Inspired by the first European settlers to Bali in the early 19th century, Capella Ubud is a sensational tented camp in tribute to their adventurous spirit. The 22 one-bedroom tented retreats and two-bedroom lodge are beautifully built against a picturesque backdrop of lush greenery and terraced landscapes and feature saltwater pools, large outdoor decks and indoor and outdoor bathrooms. The retreat interiors reflect a custom design theme based on the personalities and professions of early explorers such as captains, naturalists, cartographers, translators, toymakers and storytellers - a unique way to bring Bali's exotic past back to life.

All tented retreats, the lodge and some of the public areas are adorned with precious antique art objects and furniture, some of which come from the owner's coveted private collection .

Sensitivity to the densely forested landscape of Ubud is a top priority: all retreats and the lodge have been carefully designed with their natural surroundings in mind. The orientation of the retreats and lodge maximizes the views of the jungle , river and rice terraces, promoting natural light and the flow of cooling fresh air circulation.

The culinary tent is home to the camp's dining room , Mads Lange , the Asian street food barbecue at Api Jiwa , the Camp Fire for hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows under the stars with a local storyteller, and the Mortar & Pestle , which serves light poolside snacks, a wide selection of cocktails and libations and health-conscious options.

Inspired by the influence of the surrounding jungle scenery, three Auriga Wellness Tents artfully combine the indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy the best of both worlds. These peaceful sanctuaries with breathtaking views create a tranquil environment for spa lovers to relax and unwind. The Armoury, a name derived from the time of early European settlers for a storage room for weapons on their expeditions, is the camp's tented gymnasium that houses modern workout equipment.

The Officer's Tent, the camp's living room and library, reserved exclusively for camp residents, harks back to the bygone era of the Officer's Mess, serving coffee in the morning, tea, cocktails and canapés in the afternoon and drinks after dinner. The camp's main pool, The Cistern, offers a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of the Keliki Valley . Built in the form of a rainwater reservoir, the pool is made of marine steel plates, each weighing 100 kilos. Due to the land terrain, each steel plate had to be carried to the construction site by hand.
