Jamaica Inn
Where time stands still
This also proves it: The Jamaica Inn is not a hotel in the conventional sense - it is a philosophy of life. 52 suites and cottages, each with an unobstructed view of the sea, allow guests to experience luxury in its purest form: space, tranquillity and natural design. No televisions, no radios - just the sound of the waves, the chirping of the cicadas and the distant bustle of the beach. Life is slowed down on the spacious verandas until you almost forget that there could still be a hustle and bustle elsewhere.
If you opt for a Superior Balcony Suite, you can enjoy the view over the rainforest and the wide beach to the blue mountains. The Deluxe Verandah Suites open directly onto the croquet lawn, while the Premier Verandah Suites on the West or Beach Wing flirt with the water - so close that you can throw a piece of bread into the sea at breakfast to feed the colorful fish in the coral reef. The cottages on the rock are even more private, with their own infinity pool, outdoor shower and direct access to the sea.
In the evening, the Jamaica Inn transforms into a stage for quiet enjoyment . Music plays on the terrace - sometimes jazz, sometimes reggae - while dinner is served under the tropical starry sky. Freshly caught fish, delicate curries, aromatic fruits: the cuisine is a tribute to Jamaica's diversity. Those who prefer to eat with their feet in the sand will find their paradise at Teddy's Beach Bar & Grill - grilled specialties, wood-fired pizza, rum cocktails and the serenity of a Caribbean evening.
A special magic lies over the Ocean Spa , which towers over the sea in open thatched huts. The sound of the waves mingles with the scent of local herbs, while the hands of trained therapists massage away tension. Yoga classes are offered weekly, complemented by a small gym that is open from sunrise until late in the evening.
But Jamaica also shows itself in all its vibrancy away from the Inn. Those in the mood for exercise can paddle across the crystal-clear water in a kayak or sail in the sunlight on a small sunfish. The more adventurous can take the hotel boat to Dunn's River Falls, climb the terraced waterfalls and cool off in emerald-green pools. Those interested in culture are drawn to Bob Marley's home Nine Mile. Every day is unique: yoga by the sea at sunrise, a rum tasting at "Rumology", croquet and rosé in the afternoon, and on Thursdays
afternoon, and on Thursdays: "Bond on the Beach". Then an old 007 film flickers across a screen on the beach, where Ian Fleming himself once sought inspiration.
Perhaps that is the true magic of this place: You follow the rhythms of the sea, not the clock. And at some point, as the sun sinks into the horizon and the sky shimmers gold and purple, you understand what the Morrow family has been preserving for generations: a refuge where life feels like what it is again - a gift.
