Whoever lands at the airport in Tivat has their first wow moment after just a few minutes of transfer, when the gigantic Bay of Kotor is reflected in their pupils for the first time. The antithesis to this is the narrow, practically single-lane coastal road to the hotel. As we find out, it is a relic from the Austro-Hungarian past, when there were no cars, only horse-drawn carts. And because Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its original state must not be altered in any way.
The resort itself, the first Hyatt in Montenegro, makes up for the stop-and-go drive. The location is fabulous: the steep, densely forested Vrmac behind, the bay with its deep blue water in front and, like an elongated wallpaper, a majestic but not overwhelming mountain range. Yugoslavian times as a health booster. Back then, there was a kind of sanatorium on the site of today's hotel with a focus on asthma.
The reserved room 171, category King-Bed-Deluxe, is also suitable for taking a deep breath. Bright, quiet and tasteful. I have a pool view and also plants in front of the terrace and two palm trees. But the best place to be is down by the water, or better still, right in the water: swimming in an area marked off by buoys is pure bliss, despite the heavy traffic of speedboats, cruise ships, catamarans, excursion boats, jet skis and kayaks. At most, it encourages you to jet away from the private hotel marina. However, if you prefer to chill out on a sun lounger with a drink in your hand, the best place to be is to the side of the pebble beach, on a concrete pier.
When "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" is playing from the loudspeakers, the vacation bliss is unbeatable.
