Rome Cavalieri – A Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Museum landmark with a fascinating view

Test highlight
The indescribable Cinemascope view of the Eternal City and the 60,000 m2 Mediterranean hotel park with huge outdoor pool.
A company dinner, a birthday party and a wedding reception on the roof terrace: there's a lot going on at the Cavalieri when we arrive. But our cab driver had already warned us - he got married here too, with 400 guests. We were in a party mood mainly because of the wow location: away from the crowded city center, with unforgettable views of Rome and the Vatican. When your cozy room with a spacious balcony is also on the sixth floor and has access to the Imperial Club, there's not much more that can happen. On the way to the outdoor pool, it's easy to forget the exterior of the 60-year-old concrete box and simply look forward to the iconic swimming pool with its dream location surrounded by greenery and Olympic dimensions.

In addition, what counts at the Cavalieri are the inner values - and some of these are in a class of their own: for example, the collection of paintings worth millions, which even attracts guests from outside the region to this "hotel museum". The three en-suite masterpieces by Giambattista Tiepolo in the lobby are just a few examples of the impressive art on the walls.

High cuisine is also a tradition at the "Cavalieri". In the promising "La Pergola", which is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the world, German chef Heinz Beck is a true legend at the stove. It's just a shame that Rome's only three-star gourmet temple will remain closed until April 2024 for renovation work. Once it reopens, however, he will certainly play his part in ensuring that the Cavalieri remains a playground for VIPs and champions for decades to come. Incidentally, the biggest golfing names from Europe and the USA recently stayed here before their Ryder Cup showdown.
