"Hot thing": staying in the Ferragamo city palace

Alone on the roof terrace in the evening with a glass of wine, a plate of Parma ham and a view that takes your breath away.
Did you know that in Rome's poshest shopping street, Via dei Condotti, the garbage bins are emptied at six in the morning? Or that the alarm systems in the luxury boutiques here like to howl at the moon at around two or three in the morning - without any attempt to break in? I've known since I had to spend a night with the windows open at the Portrait Roma because no one in this hotel, which has more employees than guests, was able to switch off or cool down the air conditioning in my suite, which was far too hot. That kind of thing is annoying. Because it robs you of sleep. And because it doesn't really fit in with this ultra-luxurious hotel jewel.

Apart from the unwilling air conditioning and incompetent reception staff, it's hard to imagine a more beautiful hideaway in bella Roma! The rooms and suites: living dreams come true with huge marble bathrooms, the finest designer interiors, fine art and every imaginable - and sometimes even unimaginable - amenity. The ambience is more reminiscent of a glamorous guesthouse or the elegant city residence of very wealthy friends than a 5* hotel. The rooftop lounge, where a sumptuous breakfast is served in the morning (we're just saying quiches and cakes ...) and delicious snacks, great cocktails and superb wines until midnight: offers a view that stretches from Borghese Park to the steps of the Spanish Steps and the city's church towers and the mountains.

That's all you need. And that's all there is to this gem, which is part of the Ferragamo family's exclusive Lungarno Collection. If only the staff needed to be trained and the air conditioning repaired, then the next time we'll score 110 out of a possible 100 Connoisseur Circle points ...
