Mount Juliet Estate
Perfect for... Golfers, sports enthusiasts, nature lovers and anyone who wants to enjoy country life at its best
story. It was built by the first Earl of Carrick on a hill overlooking the River Nore and named after his beloved wife, Lady Juliana Butler. The view from up here is spectacular. Mount Juliet offers an impressive selection of outdoor activities such as horse riding, golf, tennis, hiking, falconry, archery, cycling and fly fishing. The Manor House even has an extra fishing room for the latter. To make the right decision, you should know that Mount Juliet Estate consists of two very different hotels: the magnificent 18th century Manor House and the more modern Hunter's Yard in the former stables. Breakfast is served buffet style with a view of the golf course. It is rich and varied. Toast is served in a stylish silver stand - unfortunately burnt, but nobody seems to mind. The service is generally very friendly and attentive. The noise level at dinner in the evening in the Hounds restaurant is disturbing. The Irish Hereford beef, on the other hand, is excellent and grilled to perfection. The rooms at Hunter's Yard are classically elegant and offer contemporary comfort. However, turndown service does not seem to be part of the daily routine, and we also missed water. Our recommendation: book a room in the Manor House to experience the charm and extraordinary ambience. Incidentally, the historic manor house not only has a small, private cinema room, it also serves a stylish afternoon tea, and every day at 5.30 pm you can meet Sean the Storyteller in the old bar to listen to his exciting stories.
Test highlight... the archery class with Thomas and storyteller Sean, who tells humorous and knowledgeable stories about the history of the estate
