Metropole Hotel
Occident meets Orient
The passion for opulence is unmistakable, with Venetian Bevilacqua fabrics, Murano chandeliers and antiques being just as present as oriental spices, candles, cushion covers and chandeliers. As guests, we can share in the hotelier family's passion for collecting; in glass cabinets we discover valuable and curious collections ranging from pearl-embroidered evening bags, corkscrews, business card holders and bookends to one of the most extensive crucifix collections in Europe.
The lady of the house's love of detail is evident everywhere, be it in the presentation of the sumptuous breakfast buffet or the decorations on the grand piano and coffee tables, or in the atmospheric garden with its orange and lemon trees. In the rooms, we are greeted with orchids, fresh apples and lovingly designed welcome letters and are given aromatic, typically Venetian herbal pastilles as a bedtime treat. The decor is lavish but never disorderly, creating an atmosphere that is as cozy and comfortable as it is elegant and sensual.
The service in the cocktail lounge is so welcoming that you will only leave it to explore the city. The fact that such an unusual hotel also has unusual guests can be seen in the VIP regulars such as Grace Jones, Annie Lennox and Milva, Italy's grande dame of chanson. Until recently, the hotel was also a celebrity gourmet meeting place.
Also brand new: the private spa for exclusive use with hammam, pool and Emotion Shower.
