There is no check-in with a drink, as is generally the case. Perhaps this is because we arrive at ME Ibiza on Saturday afternoon. The lifestyle hotel with its own jetty is tucked away in a small bay north of Santa Eulalia on the east coast of Ibiza.
We have to find the room - "up the stairs and to the left" - on our own. Our practically minimalist Aura Room (standard category) welcomes us with a view of the apartment block opposite with its roof terrace. It is not too big and by no means meets 5-star standards. There is no wardrobe at all. Instead, you hang your clothes on a clothes rail, where they also act as a privacy screen and separation between the bed and the bathroom (or washbasin), which is just one meter away from the headboard. The "Sexy Light" switch, which bathes everything in pink light, doesn't help either.
The next day, we move into a Chic Suite with a combined living room/bedroom, balcony and magnificent sea view. It lives up to its name and is much more spacious, bright and airy. The furnishings are modern, all in white, with a free-standing bathtub and modern art on the walls. The bathroom features a stylish shower with a powerful rain shower and amenities from the Greek natural cosmetics label Apivita.

Sun loungers and wide Bali beds (200 euros per day, 160 euros can be offset against food and drinks) are placed close together around the beautiful main pool. Picturesque pine trees and white parasols provide shade. The view of the sea is fantastic. For that Ibiza feeling, a DJ plays the right soundtrack every day - even at lunchtime. Unfortunately, the roof terrace with another pool (for a fee), bar, restaurant and spa treatment cabins was already closed at the time of our visit in early October. From the hotel, you have direct access to the glamorous Nikki Beach club. Just around the corner, the fine sandy Cala Martina bay is just a few minutes' walk away. As part of the ME by Meliá cultural program, there were art installations and changing exhibitions throughout the summer.
