A wrought-iron gate, behind it a truly royal driveway, lined with flowering oleander bushes: The wealth of this former Melpignano family estate dating back to the 15th century is apparent from the very first few meters. When you see the historic buildings, you are finally convinced that this is an SLH house.

Although the "small" is not quite right, as the individual buildings made of beige sandstone appear rather monumental and radiate stately splendor. Since 1996, the estate, which is now called Masseria, has been part of the San Domenico Hotel Group together with Masseria Cimino, the luxury hotel Borgo Egnazia and San Domenico House in London and is synonymous with luxury golf and wellness vacations in Italy. Yes, because there is also the hotel's own golf course, which borders directly on the archaeological park of Egnazia and is a classic links course of a high standard. Check-in in the separate building is done before arrival by email, and the rooms and suites with terraces or their own small garden are spread over several buildings. You can read a book undisturbed by the oversized seawater pool, the heart of the masseria with its grotto-like waterfall and loungers. And if you want to be completely private, you can retreat to an elevated meadow with your own pool. But the friendly staff will still keep an eye on you! This is also noticeable when dining: Even when the terrace is full, the service is unruffled and in perfect English.
The moderate prices for the wines are astonishing. The pool, trees and shrubs are just as atmospheric in the evening as the candlelit, vaulted interiors. The bar, cigar lounge and the plush piano room are stylish and elegant. The Thalasso offer in the spa is currently somewhat reduced. But it's not far to the two private beaches of the masseria, which are around 500 meters away...
