Grecotel Corfu Imperial
GrandHotel on a small, private peninsula
There are places of retreat and privacy, just take the two-storey 2- and 3-bedroom villas, one of which is our temporary hideaway, protected by greenery and located directly on a cliff by the sea. We walk past our own plunge pool down a flight of steps to the sea, where our loungers are waiting on a wooden pontoon - wonderful! The only downside: the shower water has a life of its own, running into the bathroom and dressing room.
Apropos travel wardrobe: As in many luxury hotels on the island, the emphasis here is on "dressing up", which gives the hotel even more style and personality. The breakfast - large selection, good quality - is charmingly accompanied by a saxophone player, who also sweetens our afternoon with a pit stop in the ice cream parlor. At dinner in the "Merlin" restaurant, the backdrop of the island's lights is enchanting, which almost makes us forget the high prices for a rather old-school cuisine, but is unfortunately not unique to Corfu.
