First Fairmont Hotel in Ireland
Half an hour's drive from Dublin, you can enjoy Irish country life at its best. After extensive restoration and luxurious refurbishment, Carton House is now Ireland's first Fairmont Hotel. The multi-award-winning 5-star resort was once the home of the Fitzgerald family and looks back on almost 300 years of history. Nestled in 1,100 hectares of parkland, the property boasts highlights such as two magnificent golf courses, a first-class spa and the historic Manor House. In the light-flooded lobby lounge, guests can relax under the olive trees. A glass corridor connects the modern extension with the former manor house with its "Downton Abbey" look. Contemporary, simple elegance, on the other hand, characterizes the ambience of the 151 new rooms in the Garden Wing. Our retreat had a lovely little terrace with a view of the greenery and a spacious dressing area. Unfortunately, an evening turndown service was not provided, nor was a reading lamp by the bed or a bottle of water. We would also have liked a hand shower in the small shower. Culinary delights are on offer: The gourmet star is without question the spectacular "Morrison Room" with its gold-decorated ceiling, pillars and marble fireplaces. It is one of the most magnificent restaurants in the country and has just been included in the Michelin Guide. Head chef Adam Nevis creates imaginative, seasonal menus here. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed during our visit. A casual alternative is the new bistro restaurant "Kathleen's Kitchen" with modern, healthy cuisine. There is a relaxed pub atmosphere in the lively and always full golf club restaurant "The Carriage House" in the former coach house, where delicious, uncomplicated dishes such as steak frites, creative sandwiches and salads are served.
