Okinawa

Explore powdered sugar beaches, dive into breathtaking underwater worlds and discover diverse natural beauty as well as a unique culture and history.

Located just a three-hour flight southwest of Tokyo, the Okinawa island chain with its 160 islands and subtropical climate is a year-round vacation destination. Each island has its own special features and seduces with its incomparable charm. There are no direct flights to Okinawa from Germany yet, but Okinawa can be easily reached via the major Japanese airports and surrounding countries.

Thanks to the subtropical marine climate , it is pleasantly warm even in winter. The average annual air temperature is 23°C and the average water temperature is 25°C. On Okinawa, the earliest cherry blossoms in Japan bloom as early as January.

The main island of Okinawa is particularly suitable for those interested in culture and history. On site, you can visit castles, royal gardens and archaeological sites, for example, as well as take part in pottery and cooking classes or karate workshops. The surrounding islands are absolute beach and nature paradises, as most of them are covered in jungle and mangrove forests. Whether diving to one of the world's most species-rich coral areas, a kayak tour through mangrove forests or jungle hikes with incredible views and many opportunities to observe animals, there are plenty of activities and excursions on Okinawa, both on land and in the water.
Get to know the birthplace of karate, sunbathe on the whitest sandy beach in East Asia or meet the oldest people in the world.
