Thailand active!
Are you looking for a combination of sun, scenery and culture paired with an active experience? While images of beautiful bays and islands usually come to mind when you think of Thailand, the countless opportunities for discoveries from north to south and exciting active experiences on land and water are often overlooked.
The mere fact that 66,000 km² of land and sea area, roughly the size of Austria, is designated as a national park, wildlife sanctuary or marine park is testament to the enormous diversity that can be experienced in Thailand's natural environment. It is best to combine these discovery trips with exciting activities.
Biking - in old and new cities
In Bangkok, for example, you can join a very special excursion, a bike tour through the city's neighborhoods and markets, such as the exciting Chinatown. Or you can cross the city's lifeline, the Chao Praya River, to enter a completely different world on the other side of the river, the city's jungle, so to speak, where you can then pedal leisurely through the countryside. The old royal city of Ayutthaya - a Unesco World Heritage Site and around 60 km outside Bangkok - is also ideal for exploring by bike.
More ambitious cyclists can also book overland tours, such as a multi-day road tour between limestone cliffs, temples and rivers in the north of the country.
Climbing and kayaking - on the dream beach
Around the former fishing village of Krabi, paradisiacal beaches, spectacular karst rocks, jungle and mangroves beckon. Not only bathers are active in this scenario, but also rock climbers hang out on the steep cliffs and probably enjoy the most amazing view. Many medium to difficult routes, but also routes for beginners, invite you to discover this world above the beaches. Outfitters and schools are available on site.
Those who prefer less excitement can rent a kayak and explore the karst landscape and mangrove swamps, for example in the Mu Ko Hon archipelago with its dream beaches and rugged caves.
Hiking - in adventurous national parks
Near Khao Lak, you can plan a hike in Khao Sok National Park, the oldest primeval forest in the world. The region fascinates with waterfalls, jungle, caves, but also with a huge lake surrounded by karst rocks and greenery. As around 200 different plant species grow here on just one hectare, the park is considered the cradle of biodiversity. A stay of a few days is also recommended, for example in the romantic raft bungalows on the lake.
There are more than 100 other exciting national parks across the country waiting to be explored, some of which even have World Heritage status.
Dive in - in the Andaman Sea
Off the west coast, in the Andaman Sea, one of Thailand's most exciting underwater landscapes awaits divers and snorkelers - the Mu Koh Similan Marine National Park. The underwater caves, tunnels and canyons, where large and small sea creatures cavort, are particularly fascinating. You can spot manta rays, leopard sharks, colorful schools of fish and sea turtles, as well as impressive whale sharks and rare manatees. Up to 200 species of coral also delight the eye.
Higher, deeper, faster, more daring...? See you soon - active in Thailand!
