Tenerife

The whole outdoor world on one island: on Tenerife you can experience pleasure, relaxation and adventure in the open air. Even under a romantic starry sky.

Outdoors is "in". Those who spend their free time outdoors experience more - especially on vacation and particularly on Tenerife. On the largest island in the Canary Islands, there is a wide range of activities waiting to be discovered by sports enthusiasts and pleasure-seekers. Whether hiking through volcanic scree fields and evergreen laurel forests, tackling adventurous climbs and rapid descents by bike, riding the waves of the Atlantic on a kiteboard or surfboard or simply taking in the island from above with a paraglider - every active holidaymaker will find their Eldorado on Tenerife.

Tenerife is the only place in the world where all volcanic processes are omnipresent - from unique landscapes to black sand beaches and impressive natural pools. These sea pools, which were created by lava flows flowing into the sea, are mainly located in the northwest of the Canary Island. They make for a very special swimming experience, as you feel as if you are swimming in the middle of the sea in an enclosed pool. If you want to visit the volcano itself, take a trip to the Teide National Park. The spectacular surroundings of the 3,781-metre-high Teide-Pico Viejo stratovolcano are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and fascinate with a rich and varied collection of volcanic elements. It is also home to the Teide Observatory, which offers not only scientists but also visitors fantastic views of the heavens above Tenerife, including "Gregor", the largest solar telescope in Europe with a diameter of 1.5 meters. Around the observatory, visitors can explore the glittering starry sky with a small telescope and good binoculars on tripods. Tenerife is one of the best places in the world for observing the sky, as the night sky is particularly clear here.

Almost half of the island's surface area consists of nature reserves - such as the Anaga Biosphere Reserve, which is a hiker's paradise with its imposing mountains. In general, environmental protection plays a major role on Tenerife and has earned the island various awards. The protection of animals has long been part of this environmentally conscious approach. Now the Teno-Rasca marine strip has been officially recognized for this: It is now the first whale sanctuary in Europe - and the third on the planet after Hervey Bay in Australia and The Bluff in South Africa. Almost half of the world's whale species can be observed off the coast.

Nature is also the inspiration for two areas that have always been very important in Tenerife: Relaxation and enjoyment. The legendary gastronomy, which has been awarded a total of six Michelin stars, spoils guests with local products of excellent quality, prepared by the best chefs on the island. And in the numerous spas, you can relax with luxurious treatments - such as a tropical fruit-based facial peeling or autotherapy with algae. Don't miss out on a massage with volcanic rock: it relieves tension, provides physical and mental balance - and gives you energy for everything that the adventure island of Tenerife has to offer.
