Obertauern

In the beginning there was snow, but soon after came Obertauern - Austria's snowiest winter sports resort.

In all variations from powder to firn, from fluffy to grippy, the snow falling from the sky plays the leading role in Obertauern's extra-long winter. Unlike many resorts that can only guarantee snow reliability thanks to artificial snowmaking, in Obertauern you can rely on natural snow reliability. Since 2016, this has been confirmed by a scientific study by ski tourism researcher Günther Aigner, according to which Obertauern is the winter sports resort with the highest snow depths in Austria. The study is based on snow depth measurements carried out by the Austrian Hydrographic Services, some of which have been conducted for over 100 years. The result: there are no indications of a trend towards decreasing snow volumes. Obertauern's snow reliability is therefore a scientifically proven fact. Maria Höfl-Riesch, three-time Olympic champion and snow ambassador for Obertauern, also appreciates this: She also enjoys skiing in the mountains of Austria's snowiest winter sports resort in her private life.

Obertauern lies in the middle of a mountain massif. 100 kilometers of pistes surround the village center in a circle, this special location gives the village its reputation as Austria's ski metropolis. The snow fun extends up to an altitude of 2,313 meters, fantastic views included. "Ski in, ski out" applies at every point in the village, the slopes are just a few turns away from the front door. No need to travel across the ocean for champagne powder: Dust-dry ice crystals provide winter sports enthusiasts and freeriders with the perfect skiing experience on natural snow from the end of November to the beginning of May.
