The best gourmet addresses in South Tyrol

La Maiena Merano Resort
The five-star resort towers high above Merano/Meran with a dream view over the spa town.
Surrounded by orchards, the wellness hotel is located between the train station of the Vinschgau line and the Marlinger Waalweg - ideal for active vacationers who can leave their car behind for tours. The main building, lodge, residence and gourmet & spa house are connected underground. In the straightforwardly designed rooms and suites, the Waldner hotelier family has added mint green and aquamarine accents that echo the Mediterranean flair of the terraces lined with palm and olive trees. Many guests' favorite spots are the roof terrace and the large infinity edge pool. Gourmets love the walk-in wine tower and the culinary variety. A new feature is the gourmet parlor, where Andreas Schwienbacher is aiming for a star. www.lamaiena.it

Hotel Gardena Grödnerhof
The Grödnerhof will be 100 years old in 2023. The five-star hotel does not look it. Hugo Bernardi has transformed what began as his grandparents' modest guesthouse into a modern luxury hotel. In 2001, he completely rebuilt the hotel in the center of Ortisei in the traditional Alpine style. It was recently extended to include an impressive spa cube made of glass, wood and steel. In the wellness oasis, a log fire by the pool and lots of wood create a feel-good atmosphere. The outdoor whirlpool and the glazed saunas literally merge with the Val Gardena. The highlight of the Relais & Châteaux establishment is the Michelin-starred Anna Stuben restaurant. Here, Reimund Brunner cooks with a regional focus, but also with luxury products from all over the world, especially in winter, which make gourmets' hearts beat faster.

Quellenhof Passeier
Can't decide what you like to do best on vacation? Then head to the Quellenhof. It simply offers everything. Its more than 10,000 m2 wellness paradise offers countless saunas and pools from the
adult area with beauty, medical and dental center to the "Acqua Family Parc" with water slides and current channel. Outside, guests can play golf on the hotel's own four-hole course, go horse riding at the equestrian center or play on more than a handful of tennis courts. Those who spend the day being so active will enjoy the excellent six-course half-board dinner, a trip to the teppanyaki grill or a visit to the Gourmetstube 1897 all the more in the evening. www.quellenhof.it

Romantic Hotel Turm
As beautiful as South Tyrol is around the imposing Sciliar massif, most guests at the Romantikhotel Turm will find it difficult to leave the five-star hotel. And that doesn't just apply to couples who like to retreat to the rooms and suites with their unique mix of traditional furnishings and modern design. Art lovers can spend hours wandering through the lounges, corridors and staircases of the hotel, which is spread over five towers, some of which are 700 years old. The walls are plastered with works by Picasso, Dalí, Kokoschka and many others. Host Stefan Pramstrahler offers regular guided tours. The hours also fly by in the spa with its glazed sauna and salt grotto carved into the rock, as well as by the garden pool. As a trained chef, Pramstrahler is naturally also particularly fond of the excellent restaurant. In their Tenuta Grottner, the family

Hotel Mignon
In the middle of the city or in the countryside? The luxury hotel offers
both. A five-minute walk from the city center, the Mignon is hidden in a spacious park between Wilhelminian-style villas. Pools, gardens and the 2000 m2 spa with a whirlpool on the roof invite you to relax. In the kitchen, Hans Peter Hummel from Vinschgau impresses with unpretentious cuisine based on regional ingredients. "I have no sympathy for high-flying gourmet trends and the hunt for stars," says the chef. "It should simply taste good to our guests." Many regular guests appreciate his down-to-earth manner and the private atmosphere in the Amort-Ellmenreich family home. The Mignon, whose rooms and suites have recently been modernized, is a classic in the spa town.
