Premiere in the Panama Canal

In 1967, Princess Cruises was the first shipping company to sail a cruise ship through the Panama Canal.

50 years later, the US shipping company is once again making history: the Caribbean Princess recently became the first mega-cruiser in the so-called "Neo-Panamax dimension" to cross the significantly enlarged lock system after ten years of construction. Thanks to the widening and deepening of the waterway, ships up to a length of 366 meters and a width of 49 meters (Neo-Panamax class) can now use this shortcut instead of having to circumnavigate the whole of South America. Previously, the maximum width was just over 32 meters - too little for the Caribbean Princess, which was refurbished in March of this year and has a width of 36 meters. Sailing the approximately 82-kilometre route between Colón on the Atlantic and Panama City on the Pacific side is a very special experience that Princess Cruises is offering 13 times during the 2017/18 winter season.
