Raffles Singapore: a hotel legend returns
Raffles Singapore celebrates its official reopening.
A whole new level of luxury now awaits guests at Raffles Singapore. The iconic hotel celebrated its grand reopening last week, heralding an exciting new chapter in the hotel's long history and rich cultural heritage. The return of the Accor flagship follows a painstaking restoration that began in February 2017 and was divided into three phases.
"There is hardly a hotel in the world
whose name has become as synonymous with the city in which it is located as Raffles Singapore. The newly refurbished Raffles will offer an unparalleled guest experience," said Christian Westbeld, General Manager, Raffles Singapore. "It is our desire and aspiration that our guests continue to create treasured memories as they discover the hotel's distinctive features: its architecture, cultural heritage and legendary service."
The meticulous renovation was led by acclaimed interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud
who was supported by leading international architecture and design firm Aedas. Together, the designers created a retreat that combines culture, beauty and elegance. New categories for the exquisite suites, lifestyle experiences and new restaurants invite travelers around the globe and locals alike to meet friends, stay, shop, dine and celebrate. With the new suites, renowned Raffles Butlers and redesigned public areas, discerning travelers at Raffles Singapore can expect a new level of comfort complemented by unparalleled service.
Jeannette Ho, Vice President, Raffles Brand and Strategic Relationships
Raffles Hotels and Resorts, said: "We are delighted to be part of the reopening of the iconic Raffles Singapore and to see the hotel legend return to the city with a fresh, renewed design. This is the place where it all began. Raffles Singapore will continue to stay true to these roots and redefine emotional luxury. With the completion of the restoration and the launch of the flagship hotel into a new chapter, Raffles is paving the way for the brand's expansion. We plan to bring the same level of service and exceptional experiences to new destinations such as Udaipur, London and Boston."
The newly designed Raffles Singapore accommodates its guests exclusively in luxurious suites
with a choice of nine different categories: State Room Suites, Courtyard Suites, Palm Court Suites, Personality Suites, Residence Suites, Promenade Suites, Studio Suites, Grand Hotel Suites and Presidential Suites. The Residence, Promenade and Studio Suites are new additions. Instead of the previous 103, travelers now have a total of 115 suites at their disposal.
The Raffles Arcade has been equipped with a charming Raffles Boutique and a selection of various new brands.
In addition, guests at Raffles Singapore can expect new restaurants and bars, including collaborations with chef Anne-Sophie Pic from the 3-star restaurant Maison Pic in Valence, France, French master chef Alain Ducasse and chef Jereme Leung, who is known for his innovative Chinese cuisine. In the Long Bar, which has also been renovated, travelers will continue the tradition of enjoying the Singapore Sling - the hotel's most famous cocktail - while dropping peanut shells on the floor.
--Christian Westbeld further adds, "Raffles Singapore is one of the few grand hotels that remain from the 19th century. The carefully planned restoration has preserved the hotel's unique historic charm while creating exceptional experiences for our valued guests - a cause that was close to the hearts of all of us at Raffles Singapore as well as the owners of Katara Hospitality."
Raffles Singapore first opened in 1887 and was declared a National Monument by the Singapore government in 1987, a century later. Over the years, the legendary hotel has established itself locally and internationally as an oasis for the discerning traveler - and for locals too, Raffles Singapore is a precious gem whose historical and cultural significance is highly valued. The last restoration took place from 1989 to 1991.

About Raffles Singapore
Having opened in 1887, Raffles Singapore is one of the few grand hotels in the world that remain from the 19th century. To this day, its architecture has been preserved inside and out, creating an intoxicating blend of luxury, history and classic colonial style. The hotel is home to over 100 lavish suites surrounded by teak verandas, white marble colonnades and lush tropical gardens. Each suite also comes with the legendary Raffles butlers.
Raffles Singapore recently underwent a meticulous restoration to finally reopen fully on August 1, 2019. The redesign has ensured that while the hotel moves with the times and meets the needs of locals and travelers, it still retains what makes Raffles so special: the ambience, service, charm and cultural heritage.
