Having grown up on an Austrian mountain farm, Ewald Biemans was drawn to faraway places at an early age - and eventually to the Caribbean island of Aruba, where he opened the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in 1987. While he was often ridiculed at the time for his tireless commitment to sustainability and nature conservation, Biemans is now regarded as a pioneer of environmentally friendly and resource-conserving tourism, which has found many imitators not only in the Caribbean. However, the Global Climate Action Award, which the United Nations presented to his hotel in 2020, remains forever unrivaled. The motto of the eternally young visionary, who is celebrating his 80th birthday this year: “We are in the nature business, not the tourism business.” There's nothing more to add - except congratulations, of course!
