Arthotel Blaue Gans
A signature place for art lovers: Located opposite the Salzburg Festspielhaus and in the immediate vicinity of Mozart's birthplace, the Arthotel Blaue Gans presents itself as a homely cultural institution.
Committed to tradition
The history of the Arthotel Blaue Gans dates back to the middle of the 14th century, when it was founded as an inn by the patrician Aufner family and has since been considered Salzburg's oldest bourgeois inn. Due to its ideal location - in the heart of the old town, opposite the Pferdeschwemme and the Festspielhaus, and in the immediate vicinity of Mozart's birthplace and the trendy and museum district - the current owner transformed the building into the boutique hotel it is today around 16 years ago. In doing so, he (and the conservation authorities) took meticulous care to preserve and restore the wonderful historical features, such as the cross vaults, antique marble floors and ornately crafted baroque doors. Modern elements were also carefully integrated. For example, old wooden panel doors harmonize perfectly with large sliding glass elements.
This year finally saw an extensive anniversary renovation, which brought numerous valuable innovations to the Arthotel; including 23 tastefully renovated and redesigned rooms, a new suite and general interior design improvements: an impressive blue was used here for an aesthetic parallel to the legendary name.
Modern Salzburg delicacies
The hotel's cuisine is also perfect. The focus here is on Austro-European classics and unique signature dishes - a feast of flavors is guaranteed all day long. Dining and tasting takes place in the extremely cozy vaulted restaurant with its original, freshly restored wall paneling and murals and in the atmospheric wine archive, a former jazz cellar with centuries-old vaults. The Schanigarten, on the other hand, is an urban oasis of calm with a Mediterranean feel in the middle of the city: olive trees, figs, palm trees and a spectacular view of the Mönchsberg wall included. The brasserie bar attracts guests with its urban design and relaxed flair.
Artful residence
Off-the-peg design? You won't find that at the Arthotel Blaue Gans. Because the 34 rooms themselves are true works of art. They are individually furnished and feature natural materials and genuine craftsmanship. The two-storey Cityflat Maisonette, directly under the historic roof truss, is a true masterpiece. On 115 square meters, the unmistakable atmosphere of an old town house unfolds along with the typical Salzburg feeling of living. There is no shortage of "modernity", thanks to audiovisual equipment, air conditioning and first-class contemporary interior design.
